Bangs?!?! Should I Get Bangs?

Considering a change? Often when looking for a change we think BANGS. Whether you are walking around Southpoint Mall, having dinner in one of the local spots in Durham, or catching a show at DPAC you will see all sorts of bangs. But you will also see hair pinned back to hide the bangs they are trying to grow out.

Before biting the bullet and getting bangs, play around with the idea a little bit. Do not drive through Hillsborough on your way to Bella Terra and think “Yup maybe I will try bangs today.” Consider your face shape, hair texture, and the amount of styling time that would be needed to make your fringe look as awesome as you deserve. Talk to your stylist about which bangs are right for you, there are so many options out there - blunt, side-swept, wispy - the list goes on!

Blunt Bangs

One of the most common types of bangs is the classic straight-across bangs, also known as blunt bangs. These bangs fall in a horizontal line just above the eyebrows, providing a bold and dramatic look They work well for people with longer faces as they help to make the face appear shorter and draw attention to the eyes. However, blunt bangs may not be the best choice for those with round or square face shapes as they can further emphasize the width. It is important to note that straight-across bangs require regular maintenance so you can expect more frequent visits to one of our Durham locations or our Hillsborough location.

Curtain Bangs

Want the bangs trending at UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke campuses? You could consider curtain bangs. Curtain bangs are longer and are mostly worn parted in the middle or slightly off-center, framing the face on either side. They work well with oval and diamond-shaped faces, as they help balance proportions and accentuate cheekbones. Curtain bangs suit a variety of face shapes and can help to soften angular features. They create a bohemian feel and are ideal for those who desire a low-maintenance style, as they blend easily with the rest of the hair when grown out. Curtain bangs may not be the ideal choice for square or round face shapes as they can make the face appear wider.

Side Swept.jpg

Side-Swept Bangs

Another popular option is side-swept bangs. These bangs create a softer and more romantic look, shorter in the middle and gradually lengthen on the sides. Side-swept bangs are versatile, and compliment various face shapes, including square, round, and heart-shaped faces. If you have a round face, side-swept bangs can help create the illusion of a longer face. They also soften the forehead on heart-shaped faces. They can also add volume to fine hair and work well with both straight and wavy hairstyles. With more of an effortless appearance, side-swept bangs require less frequent trimming and offer more styling options.

Baby Bangs

Baby bangs are very short and sit above the eyebrows. They can create a unique and trendy style but may not be universally flattering for all face shapes. They can work well for those with heart-shaped or oval faces as they highlight the cheekbones. However, baby bangs may not be as flattering for round or square face shapes.

Shadow Bangs

The new bang trending for this fall 2023 is the Shadow Bang. They are on the longer side, which will make an ideal way to try bangs out. These light, some see-through, bangs graze the eyebrows and are wispy and textured. They will require more maintenance if you want them to always hit the right angles, but they can also be pushed to the side easily as they grow out or worn back in a clip easily.
