Giving Back Feels Good:
Our Team’s Day at the Diaper Bank of North Carolina
Last week, nine members of the Bella Trio team and one friend stepped away from their chairs and treatment rooms across all three of our locations and into something that filled all of us up in a completely different way. We spent the day volunteering at the Diaper Bank of North Carolina, and we left with a lot more than we expected.
We went in thinking we knew what we were signing up for. We wrapped diapers, we laughed, we talked, and we genuinely enjoyed every minute of it. Together our team wrapped 11,150 diapers, enough to cover 223 babies. But what surprised us most was learning just how much this organization does. Most of us had no idea about the full scope of their programs, and we think it is worth sharing with our community.
About the Diaper Bank of North Carolina
The Diaper Bank of North Carolina exists to distribute dignity. Their mission is simple and powerful: ensure that every family in North Carolina has access to the basic necessities that support their health, dignity, and quality of life.
What makes their work so important is the gap they are filling. Programs like WIC and SNAP, which many families rely on, do not cover diapers. That means parents are often left making an impossible choice between buying diapers and buying food. One in two families in North Carolina experience diaper need. That number stopped us in our tracks.
And here is something else that speaks volumes: 89 cents of every dollar raised goes directly to their programs. That kind of financial integrity is something we deeply respect.
Their Programs Go Far Beyond Diapers
We knew about the diapers. We had no idea about everything else. Here is a look at the full range of programs the Diaper Bank of North Carolina runs:
• Diapers: Their flagship program, providing essential diaper access to families who cannot get help through traditional safety net programs.
• Period Power: Free period products distributed to individuals across North Carolina. Managing your cycle should never be a financial burden or a source of shame.
• Adult Incontinence: Supplies for older adults and caregivers navigating incontinence, a need that is often invisible in conversations about dignity and care.
• Formula: Infant formula distribution for families who need it, because every baby deserves to be fed.
• Essentials Hub: A broader resource connecting families to the everyday supplies they need to live with stability and dignity.
• Research: The Diaper Bank invests in research to better understand and address diaper need and period poverty at a systemic level.
• Period Power Coalition: A statewide initiative working to eliminate period poverty through advocacy, education, and product distribution.
• Disaster Response: When communities face emergencies, the Diaper Bank shows up with essential supplies for families who have lost everything.
You can learn more about each of these programs at ncdiaperbank.org/programs.
Why Period Power Caught Our Attention
One program that especially caught our attention was Period Power, which distributes free period products to individuals across North Carolina. As a team rooted in care and community, learning about this program was a meaningful moment for us. We encourage you to visit their website to learn more about it and all the work they are doing.
Why We Are Sharing This
We are not sharing this because it makes us look good. We are sharing it because we believe in the power of community, and we know that our clients and followers are the kind of people who want to make a difference when they know where to show up.
If you feel moved to help, here are a few ways to get involved:
• Donate dollars at ncdiaperbank.org
• Donate supplies by finding a local drop-off location on their website
• Volunteer your time the way our team did
• Simply share this post and help spread the word
Small acts add up. Nine people from our salon and spa team wrapping 11,150 diapers on a weekday afternoon is proof of that.
