At Bella Trio, winter is one of our favorite times of the year. Although the sun sets sooner and the weather gets colder, the abundance of holidays really make it a heartwarming season. We get to put on cheerful music, string up lights, and bring out our yearly Wishing Treeornaments with Ronald McDonald House of Charity. Through all these fun and games, we start to notice the drier air causing dry, flaky skin, sometimes to the point where people experience cracked nasal areas, and so it’s important to be proactive and address these issues before they become major. Facials are to be scheduled and products to be purchased, but how do we remedy this? Enter ceramides.
What Are Ceramides?
Ceramides are a powerhouse ingredient in skincare because of how it maintains the health of our skin. They are present in the top layer of our skin and are, essentially, the glue that holds our skin cells together. Because ceramides belong in the lipid, or oil, family, they work to seal moisture into the skin to prevent transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and maintain our skin’s natural moisturizing factors (NMF). So when our skin starts getting dry and flaky in winter, adding ceramides into your skincare routine can make the biggest difference for a happy, smooth face.
Who Can Use Ceramides?
Ceramides are naturally present in our bodies and can benefit everyone, though it’s definitely more beneficial for those with normal to dry skin conditions and sensitive skin types. The healing and moisture-preserving properties align more with what’s needed for drier skin types. Not only that, but preserving moisture in the skin is also great for preventative aging. Oily skin can also benefit from ceramides, since sometimes excessive oil can be a result of overworked skin.
